REPORTS of a nurse potentially 'stealing a car' have turned out to be a false alarm, police have confirmed.
A Halton community social media page reported the incident, highlighting potential car thieves in the Runcorn area.
A post reported someone dressed in a nurse or carer uniform, holding an open laptop while she opened her car.
Cheshire Police has now however confirmed that this was a real district nurse visiting a patient late at night.
The patient in question was someone requiring essential care.
The nurse ‘walked up the wrong pathway while looking for the correct door number’ and so was mistaken for a fake nurse.
This led to various comments, assuming guilt of the nurse, with many being described as 'threatening and unpleasant' by police.
The force's Runcorn Police team said: “Unfortunately, some of the comments on the post were quite threatening and unpleasant towards the nurse, who has since seen the posts and got in contact with us.
“While we applaud the community spirit and good intentions that sharing and commenting on such posts can have, it is important to not get carried away without knowing all the facts.”
