POUNDLAND is putting the finishing touches to its new larger store in Widnes.
The national discount retail chain says the move will bring shoppers even more choice and value to help household budgets go further.
The retailer is remaining on Widnes Shopping Park on Lugsdale Road, but is moving into a new unit which is almost double the size.
Poundland says the old unit will close this Friday, April 14, while the new store will open its doors to customers at 9am the following day, Saturday.
Spanning 9,000-square-metres, the new unit will employ 24 full and part-time colleagues, with ten transferring from the existing Poundland store.
It will offer even more everyday essentials such as groceries, drinks and snacks that shoppers love, as well as new frozen and fresh food ranges in addition to beauty, entertainment, stationery and craft options.
The new Poundland Widnes will also offer the full selection of Pep clothing, for the first time, as well as Pep home items.
The store has been designed for maximum convenience and to allow customers to do more of their shopping in a single trip.
It will join the growing number of Poundland stores, available in over half of its stores, to sell chilled and frozen food, from desserts and ice-cream to ready meals and pies and from cooked meats to frozen vegetables.
Frozen food is highly popular due to household budgets being under pressure, with buying frozen food enabling customers to reduce waste and save money.
Darren Kay, director of retail at Poundland, said: “We cannot wait to open our doors at the new store In Widnes.
“We are not going far – in fact we are on the very same retail park. The move means we have nearly doubled the floor space so we can squeeze in even more amazing value across even more products.
“Widnes shoppers will see a whole host of new additions, including extended Pep clothing, new frozen ranges and an even bigger fresh offer.
“As a result, our new Widnes store will be a cracking example of the breadth of what we can offer in a really convenient location.
“We have worked hard to bring the very best of Poundland, which in turn will help customers looking to beat the economic squeeze.”
