RESIDENTS have been told that flooding is possible after a flood alert was issued covering Runcorn and Widnes.
The alert has been served for the Mersey estuary through the towns, having been issued this morning, Wednesday.
According to the Government’s flood information service, the alert has been triggered by rising river and tide levels.
Among the areas covered, according to the official alert, are Liverpool, New Ferry, Woodside, Ellesmere Port, Runcorn, Widnes, Hale Village and Fiddler’s Ferry.
The alert reads: “Flooding is possible in this area. Monitor local water levels and weather conditions.
“Avoid using low lying footpaths or entering areas prone to flooding. Start acting on your flood plan if you have one.
“Environment Agency flood warning officers set the river or tidal levels that have triggered this message.
“During industrial action this message has been automatically issued based on rising river or tidal levels.”
