A BIRDWATCHER has spoken of his sadness after finding a dead marine mammal.
The member of the public came across a deceased porpoise along the banks of the River Mersey.
He made the heartbreaking discovery while out birdwatching at around 1pm on Sunday in Hale Village.
The stricken animal was found at the bottom in Within Way, at Hale Marsh, on the grass just above the high tide line after becoming beached.
A spokesman for the RSPCA in the north west said: “We advise members of the public not to touch dead cetaceans for health and safety reasons.
“To report them, freephone the UK strandings hotline on 0800 652 0333.”
