A NEW gym is set to open in the new year in an old disused DW Fitness site.
The DW Fitness site is being taken over by Transfit Widnes, the latest venture between two friends.
Luke Colford and Dominic Speakman, both from Widnes, opened their first gym in 2017, on Finlan Road.
This was after Dominic began hosting a number of boot camp sessions on the car park at Birchfield Sports Club.
These sessions then moved to Widnes Tennis Club.
However, once Luke began helping Dominic, the duo quickly outgrew the tennis club, and opened their site on Finlan Road in 2017.
The pair grew from strength to strength, and in 2018 opened a yoga and spin class studio.
This proved to be a success - but as with many businesses, Covid lockdowns put a stop to that, and the duo had to permanently close the studio.
However, the gym persisted with online and outdoor classes running throughout the pandemic.
Luke and Dominic said: "Since Covid, we have bounced back really well, and have been looking for a while.
"We have viewed quite a few properties, but the old DW gym is the perfect fit for us and gives us the chance to help even more people with their health and fitness."
They added: "We’re a local independent gym, owned by local people.
"We’re in the gym ourselves every day and have built an extremely supportive and welcoming community within the gym."
Transfit Widnes will open in the new year, on Monday, January 2.
It can be found on Cross Street.
