Liverpool John Lennon Airport is now giving passengers the chance to fly to the US on connecting flights.
In October, airline PLAY began offering flights to Iceland Reykjavik from the Liverpool airport with connecting flights to US destinations: Washington/Baltimore, Boston Logan and New York Stewart.
The Liverpool route is a new addition to PLAY’s 2022/23 winter schedule and it will operate every Monday and Friday until April 2023.
Birgir Jónsson, CEO of PLAY, said: “PLAY’s passenger numbers have already reached a staggering 182,000 in Q2, with August continuing the success with a huge number of 108,000 passengers carried in the month alone.

“Iceland’s extraordinary scenery, rich wildlife and bustling beer scene makes for an epic weekend away and we can’t wait for those in the northwest region of the UK to come and experience it. We hope that the football mad Icelanders will be welcomed much the same as they travel to Liverpool in search of the famed atmosphere of Anfield and Goodison Park.”

Paul Winfield, Director of Aviation Development for Liverpool John Lennon Airport, commented: “As well offering the region’s travellers an excellent low-cost airline product to Iceland and on to New York, Washington and Boston, this will also be another important link for the region’s visitor economy too, making it easy for Icelanders and Americans wanting to visit the Liverpool City Region, the North West and North Wales to fly to Liverpool.”
PLAY launches recruitment drive with flight attendants and pilot jobs available
An additional route brings increased demand so PLAY is not only launching four new aircraft next year but a recruitment drive of 150 flight attendants and 55 pilots has been initiated.
The people in these roles will work across the 10 aircraft which are set to be in work from spring 2023.
