Although that sounds bad, initial impressions of Hong Kong are great :) We both had our first flights cancelled yesterday from our local airports to Heathrow (Steven from Glasgow and me from Manchester) but they put us on others straight away and we met in London to make the connection on time....but when we arrived in Hong Kong I waited and I waited at the baggage claim bit and nothing came :(...So I went to the desk and he informed me that my bag was still in London ...oh well not to worry, I had essentials in my hand baggage such as a bikini and a denim skirt ha ha.
I tried to remain upbeat but for such a high maintenance girl like me, losing my bag this early on was a bit of a worry! Then another couple who were on our flight informed us that the shops would be closed for two days as we have arrived at Chinese New Year (we had arrived on New Year's eve) so it looks like i'll be wearing Steven's clothes for a while! On the plus side a friendly local told us that there are huge street parades on over the next few days and a fireworks display at the harbour.
When we walked through arrivals, we saw lots of locals holding huge microphones and banners ....for one second I thought they must have known that one member of Widnes's best girlgroup has just arrived ha ha, but it seems there was a Korean superstar just behind us...never seen anything like that before, they literally mobbed him/her....we didn't get a close enough look to see what they looked like. If the airport is anything to go by, this is a super efficient place, if you look the slightest bit confused someone is at your side helping you.
We were very impressed with our hotel - the Metropark in Kowloon, for something like 25 pounds a night between us we have a lovely room and I think it's the equivalent of a 3 star back home. Better than a hostel!
We both have jetlag at the moment and i've been awake since 3am (maybe a little to do with the missing bag) and so I decided to go to the lobby on the internet to pass the time. It's nearly 7am now so i'm off to sample the delights of Chinese breakfast!
