THERE was a large fire at a building in Widnes on Sunday.
Firefighters were called to reports of smoke coming from the former Roger Haydock and Co. Ltd building on Mersey View Road around 6pm.
Five fire engines attended from Widnes, Runcorn, Penketh, Birchwood and Northwich.
On arrival, they found the three-storey brick building well alight.
A hose reel water jet was used in an initial attack on the fire while they assessed the scene.
As of 10pm, there are now three fire engines at the scene as well as an aerial ladder platform checking for hotspots.
Crews are said to be 'making good progress', but are expected to remain at the scene for some time.
An update at 8am on Monday reads: "Three fire engines, an aerial ladder platform and a welfare support unit remain at the scene while crews continue to check for hotspots."
