Gogglebox star leads amazing challenge for Halton Hospice

The hospice Patron and friends have raised thousands over the past few years during an extremely tough period, when community events and fundraisers were cancelled due to the pandemic.

The London to Paris cycle challenge had been postponed for two years however the team of 16 cyclists finally made it to Paris on July 2 with the assistance of Chapeau Events as support. The ride itself covered 320 miles over four days. From London the riders cycled through the English countryside to Dover to meet the Calais ferry. In France there were quiet country lanes, traditional market towns and rolling green hills.

Of course, the pièce de resistance was ultimately the spectacular view of the 324 metre Eiffel Tower, marking the ride's overwhelming finish and certainly evoking a huge sense of achievement, not to mention unforgettable memories.

The team of 16 consisted of Paul’s friends from Halton, London and even as far as Switzerland, many with personal connections to the Hospice.

Community Fundraiser, Elle Smith who also participated in the challenge said: "We are so proud of all the riders for taking on this incredible challenge for the Hospice.

"The amount of effort from every member of the team, not only with their training but also the fundraising, was amazing.

"From Quiz nights to silent auctions, they have dedicated so much time and emotion to this challenge and we couldn’t be more thankful. Several of the riders, myself included, have personal connections to Halton Haven after loved ones have been cared for by the Hospice. Cycling up to the Eiffel tower with their names in our minds was so emotional and definitely a feeling that won’t ever be forgotten."

The team have raised a remarkable £30,000 so far, with donations still being received. The final amount to be announced next month at a reunion ride which will finish at the Hospice.
