THE M56 was closed in both directions for several hours this morning (Thursday, May 19) after police concerns about a man on a bridge.
All lanes on both sides of the carriageway between junctions 12 for Runcorn and 14 for Helsby were closed from around 2.30am, resulting in significant delays.
The man was eventually led to a place of safety just before 8am.
At around 11am, it was announced all lanes had now re-opened to traffic.
However, National Highways say there are still delays of around 90 minutes for those heading west.
