IT has been two years coming, but Warrington’s brilliant youth musical theatre group is back and what a show to return with.
CODYS rocked The Brindley Theatre in Runcorn with the Queen musical We Will Rock You in their first production since March 2020.
All thoughts of a global pandemic and social distancing were abandoned as the young cast radiated the joy of music and dance in a magical night of entertainment.
It is fantastic to see that CODYS has been nurturing a roster of gifted young talent over the past two years. These young people, pent-up for 24 months, were ready to burst and their enthusiasm at performing again in front of an audience was infectious.
The melding of Queen’s anthems and Ben Elton’s witty script results in a thoroughly enjoyable show.
Toby Holmes as Galileo and Olivia Hebden as Scaramouche have great voices and were perfect as the lovers who lead the Bohemian rebellion against the controlling Globalsoft, which has banned all live music in a totalitarian future.
Acting as foils to the leads were the excellent Daniel Wilson (Buddy), Isobel Green (Killer Queen), Ewan Schooler (Khashoggi), Isaac Hartill (Brit) and India Poulaud (Oz).
Huge credit, too, to the ensemble and dancers who helped to bring richness and depth to the production.
CODYS producer Nick Cupit and his team always push the group to produce ambitious shows, with dazzling results. We Will Rock You was the perfect vehicle to return to live theatre with.
CODYS are now setting their sights on Rock of Ages, which will be staged at the Brindley in September.
