A CHRISTMAS appeal in Halton received the biggest response from the community yet.

More than 100 children across the borough received an advent calendar at the beginning of December, a full sack of toys each plus pyjamas and every parent also received pyjamas and a gift thanks to the Taking a walk in their shoes charity.

It supported every family living in Halton’s local domestic violence accommodation with the same as well as families living in temporary homeless accommodation.

The team also provided gifts and treats to Widnes Hall Care Home, as well as craft sets, gifts and treats to young people aged 16-25 living in hostel accommodation.

And to add to the festive spirit, the charity also sent out £2,500 worth of Iceland deliveries to families receiving our support at Christmas with shops containing everything for Christmas dinner plus extra food for the week.

Manager at Taking a walk in their shoes, Kelly Harrison was left speechless by the response from the community.

She said: “Each year I’m astonished at how much our community pulls together to make our Christmas appeal a success and this year left me speechless.

“I’m extremely proud of all of my volunteers for all of the help they gave me all through the Christmas appeal and when we came together to pack and deliver to families.

“I’d also like to thank all of the local businesses across Halton who got involved in promoting our appeal, collecting toys and having collection buckets.

“Covid really affected us massively this year and we really struggled in the beginning to raise the vital funds needed for us to provide everything we set out to."

Kelly says there was amazing support felt across the borough for donations and volunteering, they had people aged from seven to 75.

“This is a huge achievement and something we could never achieve without the amazing support from those in our community who support us.”
