A WIDNES man joined Speedo Mick – real name Michael Cullen – for an eight-hour walk from Warrington to St Helens last week.

Leam Fox, who lives near West Bank, met up with Mick on Manchester Road in Woolston gone 8am last Wednesday, December 15 to head to the Eccleston Arms pub.

Mick is on a 2,000 mile, five-month trek across the UK and Ireland for charity and the Evertonian is renowned for doing so in just his swimming wear.

Leam - a Widnes Vikings LDRL player - said: “I wanted to walk with Speedo Mick because he does a lot of charity work for a lot of people and I like doing charity work myself.

“What he does for people is amazing. I’ve done lots of charity walks before so to walk with a guy who is an inspirational guy in his underpants is great while I have thick tracksuit bottoms and a snood on just to keep warm.”

On the route to St Helens, they were joined by one other person for 30 minutes but for the majority of the distance, it was just the two walkers.

Mick’s challenge is raising money The Speedo Mick Foundation and Leam is raising money for Young Lives Vs Cancer charity by joining him.

Leam, who works at Morrisons on Green Oaks Way, added: “It has been my work charity for the last couple of years so I thought I would do a walk for them.”

And so Leam did – though with Mick being so popular, the end of the walk was not straightforward.

The 41-year-old said: “It took us two hours to get up to Clockface Road because everyone wanted to take a picture with him.”

Leam has so far raised £65 to support the charity and donations can be made here.
