FASCINATING drawings of key figures in the Second World War have been discovered in an old air raid shelter.
John Travis has shared these pictures of the sketches doodled on the walls of the shelter in his back yard in Hale Bank, Widnes.
The likes of Winston Churchill, Adolf Hitler and Franklin D Roosevelt are featured – as are Laurel and Hardy.
It is thought that the drawings may have been created while a wartime occupant was sheltering during an air raid.
John said: “I’ve lived in the house for nine years, and I was just using it as storage.
“They’ve been there for years, but I didn’t realise who the drawings were of – I just thought it was Andy Capp, the cartoons that used to be in the papers.
“But one of my friends was round and I showed him the pictures – he went ‘that’s Churchill, Hitler and Roosevelt’.
“They were probably drawn when they were in the shelter during the war.
“To be honest, I was going to turn it into a shed but I don’t want to cover them up now.
“I’m from Hale Bank, and I remember a family called the Ramplings used to live here.
“It’s good for other people to see – my little lad is 10, and when they go back to school he can show the other kids in class.”
