A RUGBY club is set to mark its 50th anniversary next month – and it’s calling on past and present players to help celebrate this milestone.
Moore RUFC was launched half a century ago with thousands of players wearing the black and gold shirts over the years.
The club was formed in November 1968 when a number of like-minded people met in the Red Lion public house in Moore and agreed to form a rugby club with the first game held against Warrington Vikings.
After playing away games, the lease of a field was secured on Moss Lane in Moore and an old motorway site hut was obtained and used for changing rooms to enable home games to take place.
Over the years the club has gone from strength to strength and now owns two pitches and a clubhouse.
The club currently runs two senior teams as well as a women’s section.
To mark the 50th anniversary, past and present players are invited to watch the first team’s game against Capenhurst on November 17.
There will be a buffet served before the game at 1.30pm and celebrations continuing from 5pm with presentations, a happy hour and live music from the Bogtrotters.
Hot food will be served around 8pm.
Andy Mossop, who has been club chairman for 11 years, said: “If you have ever played for the club or are simply a friend of the club we would love you to share this proud day with us all.”
