FIREFIGHTERS are tackling a scrap yard fire in Widnes.
Crews discovered tyres and scrap cars well alight on Pickerings Road on Halebank Industrial Estate shortly before 11am this morning.
Firefighters are using two main jets to put out the fire.
Four fire engines are at the scene.
Road closures are in place as emergency services deal with the incident.
The building was protected with water jets and one team conducted a theram scan inside.
Firefighters used a 44mm jet to dampen down the area and make it safe.
The fire was finally put out at around 4pm this afternoon.
Crews from Runcorn, Penketh, Birchwood and Lymm were assisted at the scene by crews from Merseyside.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed that an investigation will now be carried out to find out the cause of the fire at the premises of J Bryan, a demolition contractor and dismantler.
