CHEMICAL giant ICI employed more than 6,000 people at Rocksavage Works in its heyday.

The plant was built in 1938 and by 1960 the company was the biggest industrial employer in Runcorn and Widnes.

Former instrument technician Selwyn Hansford has started a Facebook page to share memories and photographs.

The response has been so overwhelming, he is now organising a reunion.

All employees are invited to meet up on June 2, 2017 at the Pavillions, the old ICI Weston Recreation Club, on Sandy Lane.

In 2000, a reunion of Rocksavage Works instrument and electrical employees was declared a big success.

Mr Hansford, 60, who was 16 when he started his instrument apprenticeship at Rocksavage,  said: “It was very well attended and many memories were shared and old friendships rekindled, many still keeping in touch with each other today.

“This reunion is open to all employees who worked for ICI at Rocksavage Works before it was sold to Ineos.

“We’re hoping to reach as many as possible to relive those golden memories and reacquaint old work mates.”

The plant produced a variety of chemicals based on chlorine products.
