I have worked hard to build a life for myself and my family.
The sixth of eight children, I studied hard at my local comprehensive school in Glasgow, trained as a scientist then moved into high school teaching when I started my family.
In my 40s, I started to become very frustrated with how my council was run.
I became active in my local community and got into politics, winning a council seat in my home ward.
I started as a community champion and am still a member of several friends groups and societies and president of my allotment and garden society.
As well as education and life-long opportunity for all, green issues and housing are close to my heart.
In spite of losing my council seat last year, I am still working hard for the party and am delighted to have been selected for Weaver Vale in 2015.
