WE asked Weaver Vale MP Graham Evans what he had achieved for Runcorn during the past five years and how he will change the lives of the community if he is re-elected?
Here is his response:
"Unemployment has halved and the local economy is growing.
I secured over half a billion pounds through procurement for the Mersey Gateway and persuaded the Chancellor to make the bridge toll free for Halton residents.
Sci Tech Daresbury became an enterprise zone, attracting high quality jobs and a £150 million investment to establish the highest speed computing centre in the UK.
The Sutton Weaver bridge has received a £4.5m refurbishment.
I helped to re-open the Halton curve, which will create direct rail access from North Wales, through Frodsham to Liverpool Airport.
I secured funding for a new £12m Sandymoor freeschool, one of my proudest achievements.
I got the NHS treatment centre re-opened and helped to open an urgent care centre in Halton Hospital.
I held four job fairs for the unemployed.
I helped to raise funds for the Todger Jones memorial statue.
If elected, I will continue with my advice surgeries.
I hope to modernise Runcorn East railway station and improve disability access.
I am looking for investment in electrification on the Chester to Manchester line.
I want to improve public transport.
My vision for Sandymoor is to improve its community facilities.
I would like to see a good quality metro shop and state-of-the-art health care centre, perhaps with a pharmacy and other shops.
There will be another 1,500 new homes built there.
I think there should be a primary school in Sandymoor.
I would like to see more community services for Norton and Beechwood.
I hope that Daresbury enterprise zone will continue to grow.
My ultimate aim is to get full employment and jobs for local people.
I will continue to organise job fairs.
I will endeavour to continue running the London Marathon in aid of Halton Haven Hospice. I will be completing my fourth run later this month."
