A FAMILY has paid tribute to a courageous Widnes woman who died after trying to save a mum and her baby from being attacked.
Alison Wilson, aged 36, was assaulted when she and another passer by intervened in a disturbance between a man and woman with a baby.
The incident happened in Frank Street, Halton View, at around 11.20pm on Saturday, March 7.
Alison received serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to hospital, where she remained in a critical condition.
She died in Whiston Hospital on the evening of Friday, March 13, with her family around her.
In a statement, Alison’s family said:"As a family we are truly devastated.
“Alison was a beautiful, caring, loving, mother, daughter, partner, sister, sister-in-law and aunty.
“Alison was taken away from us too early for trying to help another person in distress.
“As a family we ask that you give us our privacy so we can piece our lives back together without her."
A 43 year old man, from Widnes, who also intervened, received cuts and bruising which required hospital attention.
The woman and baby received less serious injuries and were also examined at hospital.
A man arrested at the scene has been remanded in custody having being charged with two charges of wounding and two counts of assault.
A post mortem examination concluded that Alison died as a result of injuries sustained in the assault.
Police enquiries remain ongoing into the incident.
