LABOUR’S shadow minister for children and families, Alison McGovern MP came to Runcorn on Thursday.
She met parents and Halton Clr Ged Philbin, board member for children and young people, to discuss the importance of childcare centres.
Families told her the cost of childcare is a big obstacle when they are trying to find a job.
Mrs McGovern said: "Labour's campaign to increase free childcare for working parents of three and four-year-olds is clearly important to people in Runcorn.
“It was a really great opportunity to meet everyone at Brookvale.
“What an excellent service they provide to families."
Julia Tickridge, Labour’s Weaver Vale election candidate said: "It was inspirational to see first hand how Brookvale Children's Centre is providing universal and comprehensive support for working parents and carers to give children the best possible start in life.
"When I was going around the estate I met a nursery nurse who couldn't afford to pay for childcare for her own children. That's absolutely crazy."
