1943 – 2024
Joyce passed away peacefully on 16th Nov. 2024 at Cheshire Grange Care Home. A much-loved sister of George (1949-2020), sister-in-law of Jennie and proud ‘Auntie Joyce’ to Andrea, Louise, Paul and Lucy, who will affectionately remember her as ‘AJ’. Joyce will also be fondly remembered to many as ‘Miss Woods’ after having taught generations of families at Stockton Heath County Primary School over a 37-year period. Joyce was a well-known friendly face in Stockton Heath village, having lived there her whole life.
Joyce was also well recognised on the South Stand of the Halliwell Jones Stadium, cheering on (and sometimes chastising) her beloved Wire, and was committed to the development of future generations of players through her support of Warrington Wolvers Supporters Trust and SquadBuilder. Outside of rugby, she enjoyed being in the countryside and beside the sea, anywhere from Wales to New Zealand. She knew the best pub lunches in Cheshire and enjoyed many meals of Fish and Chips in them.
Joyce will be deeply missed by many. The family would like to thank all those who have passed on kind words and their own memories of her, which bring comfort.
The funeral will be held at St Thomas’ Church, Stockton Heath on Thursday 12 Dec. 2024 at 12pm, followed by a committal at Fox Covert Cemetery. There will be a gathering of those who knew her and celebration of her life immediately after the church service from 1.30pm at Warrington Sports Club, Walton Lea Road.
