David Ginever with a stunning shot in the 87th min. kept up the Reserves impressive record of being the only unbeaten team in the Carlsberg West Cheshire league.

Bingham went close with an early effort that brought a good save from the visitors keeper, Bingham looked lively and minutes later he hit a shot that flew narrowly wide of the upright with the keeper unsighted. It was proving to be a poor game considering the high position of both teams. Pensby missed an open goal as half time approached, town being very lucky to go in level at the interval.

Butler replaced the injured Grice and made an immediate impression with a cross that just eluded Murphy's lunge. Pensby were awarded a penalty in the 58th min following a rash tackle on Jones, after a run that had taken him beyond the Runcorn back four. Corless took full advantage from the resultant spot kick hammering the ball past Wilson.

The goal proved to awaken Runcorn and they began to pressurize the ball all over the pitch. Pensby were defending well though and chances proved difficult to create. Murphy went close with a long range shot whistling past the post before being replaced by the experienced Bushell. Pensby had a hopeful 25yd effort that went narrowly wide before David Ginever saved the day for Runcorn, bringing the ball out of defence, he beat 3 defenders before unleashing a tremendous shot into the net from fully 25yds. The goal was certainly deserved for the uncompromising central defender.

Runcorn Town Res: Wilson; Davies, Ginever, Graven, Illidge: Grice, Daly, Darligton, Murphy; Anderson, Bingham.

Subs: Tudor, Butler, Bushell, Orme, Conway.

Man of the Match; Captain, Paul Illidge
