TWIN brothers from Widnes attended a special ceremony at Windsor Castle to receive the highest award in the Scouts.

Matthew and Joseph Duckett received the King’s Scouting Award on Sunday, April 21, which is presented for outstanding personal achievement.

To receive the award, Scouts aged 16-25 must complete a range of challenges, including service to their community, and expedition in wild country, a five-day residential project in a new environment and develop or learn a new skill.

“I am so proud to have achieved my King’s Scout Award alongside my brother Matthew,” said Joseph.

“It has prepared me in so many ways for life as an adult by giving me independence and confidence.

“It really has opened doors for me by completing it.”

As part of their award, the twins hiked up Snowdon and down to Beddgelert together as well as learn and expand skills such as ballet dancing and playing the flute.

“Becoming a volunteer leader has enabled me to gain so many leadership and people skills I have been able to transfer into my career,” said Matthew.

“It has prepared me for life in so many ways and has allowed me to see the impact community work can really have on others too.”

The twins weren't the only members of their family to receive an award last weekend, as their dad, Kev, was also awarded a Medal of Merit.

The Windsor Castle award ceremony was attended by chief Scout, Bear Grylls, Ellie Simmonds, Warwick Davis and Dwayne Fields.

“Joseph and Matthew have demonstrated courage and kindness, alongside a true ‘never give up’ spirit and shown Scouting values to the highest of standards,” said Bear Grylls.

“They’ve contributed hugely to their communities and developed so many skills along the way.

“Gaining this award is the pinnacle of their Scouting journey.”
