ONE of the bridges linking Runcorn and Widnes is currently closed.
Emergency services are in attendance on Silver Jubilee Bridge this morning, Friday.
It comes following reports of a vehicle fire on the River Mersey Crossing.
The A557 bridge is closed in both directions due to a vehicle fire between Ashridge Street and the A533, a traffic notice states.
It adds that traffic is coping well, but motorists should be aware of disruption.
It comes before planned works on the bridge in the New Year which will also cause disruption.
From 8 January, northbound lane closures controlled by temporary traffic lights will be in place on Silver Jubilee Bridge as a major maintenance scheme gets underway.
Halton Borough Council says this may result in short delays for drivers at times, and it has apologised in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
The maintenance work includes painting to the steelwork below the main deck of the bridge and will involve the installation of access scaffold across the suspended span over the river.
