THE services of firefighters were required after a fire broke out in the rear of a bin lorry this afternoon, Wednesday.
Two fire engines from Widnes and Runcorn fire stations rushed to Pitt Street in Widnes shortly before 2.30pm.
A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the fire in the lorry was out when they arrived.
However, fire crews had to ensure there was no further spread of fire from the waste material.
They travelled with the truck to its depot to dump the remainder of the waste material and dampen it down using a hose reel jet.
