PASSENGERS had a lucky escape after a fire on board a bus in Runcorn.
Emergency services were called to High Street at around 11.45am today (Tuesday, August 27) following reports of a fire on a bus which is believed to have started in the engine compartment.
On arrival of emergency crews the fire had spread to the back seat of the bus.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire before using a thermal imaging camera to check for any hotspots.
No-one was injured during the incident.
Firefighters from Runcorn and Widnes remained at the scene for around 45 minutes.
