THE complex challenge of cleaning up Sellafield is the theme of a scientific talk being given in Widnes.
Alex Brown from the National Nuclear Laboratory is the guest speaker at a Widnes SciBar meeting at 7.30pm on Wednesday, February 10 at the Hillcrest Hotel, Cronton Lane.
Sellafield, a nuclear fuel reprocessing and decommissioning site in West Cumbria is regarded as potentially one of the most hazardous sites in Europe.
Decommissioning costs are estimated to be around £80 billion.
Experts say there are huge scientific and engineering challenges including plant design, monitoring and access.
This talk will show how mathematical modelling is being used to help overcome these difficulties.
Widnes SciBar is for anyone with an interest in science or a wish to know more about the subject.
