SHADOW Cabinet Minister Jonathan Ashworth came to Runcorn on Saturday to pledge support for Labour’s prospective Weaver Vale parliamentary candidate Julia Tickeridge.
Lucy Powell MP, vice chairman of the party’s general election campaign, joined them to canvass Runcorn voters.
It was part of a ‘Labour express’ drive to target the marginal seat.
Julia Tickeridge said: "Labour students from across the UK joined forces with our campaigners from Weaver Vale and neighbouring Halton constituency.
“It’s brilliant that Jonathan came to meet people on the doorstep in Runcorn.
“We knocked on hundreds of doors in Beechwood, meeting voters and made a substantial contribution to the four million conversations Labour is having with people on how we can change the country and build an economy that works for everyone.
"For the next 100 days we will continue to be out knocking on as many doors as possible before the general election.”
Mr Ashworth said: “Weaver Vale is a top target seat for Labour and I know Julia is out listening to people all the time.
“She will be a fantastic MP for the area and we will be doing everything we can to help her continue to win people’s trust and be elected this May.”
